Thirteen students have received the Horatio Alger State Scholars award sponsored by the BNSF Railway Foundation. $5,000 is awarded to the teens to use toward college, while receiving financial aid guidance through the program.

FORT WORTH, TX (Catholic Online) - Teens are chosen for the award based on academic performance, community service, and strength of character that is shown by overcoming personal obstacles.

Since 1984, the Horatio Alger Association has given $2.5 million in scholarships to Texas students. The 2012 winners are:
